LFST RB3000: Last week we got down to some
of the finer points and mechanisms of spiritual and mystical practices. Many of
the words I use may sound paradoxical or convoluted in explaining these areas.

LFST RB3000: A clarification I always make
is "ecstatic-mystical trances" -- we'll talk more about these in
future classes, but for now I'll just point out that I am not using the
colloquial nor the psychological meanings of these words.

LFST RB3000: "Ecstatic" does not
mean "really happy", "mystical" does not mean exotic or
orthodox, nor is it necessarily mysterious. The "trances" that I am
talking about are not from watching a pendulum or a twirling spiral; they are
conscious shifts into alternate realities by one's own intent.

LFST RB3000: FRIENDS, before we start the
actual class, I'll just take a minute to
review what we've done so far, which is the practices that allow us to change our position of
consciousness. I do recognize that the
contents of this class are generally learned painfully, over lifetimes, but we
can see where we are going, to some extent.

LFST RB3000: It really does take doing
daily practices to be able to assimilate this kind of material, so I'll just
quickly summarize the ones that I know, to get you started:

LFST RB3000: "Just Sitting" --
there is a special reason that I don't say "meditation" for
this. Mantras -- toning, chanting,
repetitious singing, and "silences" of a certain kind.

LFST RB3000: Pranayama-- the mystical
octaves of the Breath; the activation of the Serpents; the aspiration of the
deities.
HOST
LFST RB3000: Asanas and Mudras: These are
specific positions and movements of the body and of the hands which allow
various kinds of energies and healings to be channelled, and which tone the
psychic and spiritual apparatus.

LFST RB3000: T'ai Ch'i, K'ung F'u, Ch'i Kung
and sacred dance -- methods of installing the dimensionalities of consciousness
into the body.

LFST RB3000: Making appointments with
oneself -- gradually developing self-knowledge and will.

LFST RB3000: Taking our daily inventory --
sometimes called "recapitulation" or "reversing the day".
HOST
LFST RB3000: Work against negativity and
against the inner "conversation" -- this develops will, silent power,
presence and freedom.

LFST RB3000: Humility, service and
devotion -- this has nothing to do with altruism or philanthropy; these tasks
are necessary for reversing the flow of self-pity and self-absorption, which
are the chief obstacles to Knowledge and Power. In fact, they are the only aspects which even can be
"evil."

about the basic practices so far, or about the structure of the whole class?

exchangeable or are they different somehow?

does something different, although groups of them concern alchemy, or Will, or
trance states, or control...

philosophies?

how the entrained prejudices of our societal norms prevent us from seeing the
supernatural right before our very eyes.

LFST RB3000: It is tantamount to our being
as ignorant as the most superstitious primitives, except that they very often
are aware of the unseen forces of the world. Their mythologies even include stories
of astronomical or microscopic events that our own "advanced"
technologies are first becoming sensitive to.

keep us going through empty rituals and subscribing to the most obvious
propaganda that denies the existence of anything that is not itemized in
"standard reality" and "common sense."

LFST RB3000: Even those of us who are most
aware and sensitive are in deep illusion, according to teachings that have come
down to us in all the lineages and traditions. What is it that we are not
seeing?

ourselves and about each other? What could the Real World be like? How would we have to change in order to know
it?

remembers our childhood "fantasies" and "imaginary
friends"? Did we just invent little worlds to play in, or were we really
*remembering* them? Do you remember
every time an adult or an older child told us that what we were seeing, or what
we knew, was "nonsense"?

experience with "little people" (elves, faeries, leprachauns, etc.),
although I never did until a half-century later. I think it must take a certain
innocence to see them, and it is only recently that I have (re)developed such a
viewpoint -- by doing the very practices that I am describing to you.

LFST RB3000: Other people see ghosts,
phantoms, ETs, UFOs -- are even abducted by them. Are they delusional, or are there realms of experiences that are
going right past us? Are people who are
insane or who are blown out on drugs merely hallucinating, or is their very
insanity what moves the masking apparatus out of the way?

LFST RB3000: But of course we don't talk
about any of that, even to ourselves lest we be thought a crackpot, so that
whenever we do catch a glimpse of something "unexplainable" (that is,
it does not fit into one of the approved categories of experience), we
immediately and unconsciously erase it from our recollection -- we end up
knowing nothing consciously, except that we are run by these erased phantoms.
We could say that the unconscious may be entirely made up of
"phantoms" that we've "erased."

all getting the idea now. Let's take our
subject further now ...............

addiction are neither recommended nor do they produce desireable and repeatable
results. Religious fanatics like fire-
and glass walkers, snake and flame handlers and those who pierce their flesh
with painful-looking spikes, and also pentacostal and voudou worshippers,
experience fairly consistent supernatural results, but they are generally not
in complete control of the outcome, which may not even be very desireable.

LFST RB3000: An alternative is to
undertake the disciplines of genuine esoteric lineages. These can be identified by their gradualness
of approach, a consistent framework of knowledge or ideas of some kind (in
contrast to some canned dogma to subscribe to), and attention directed toward
modification of one's own conduct, attitudes, thought processes and methods for
handling the emotions. This in contrast to any of the separatist beliefs (like "democracy")
that anything is "somebody's fault" or that some political action is
the answer to our "problems."

LFST RB3000: The *emotions* that I spoke
of handling, just now, are not actually *feelings* -- tradition has determined
that all of our "pain", "suffering", "anger",
"grief" and even what we call "love" are exactly made up of
some initial trigger of energy or juxtaposition with no intrinsic value
content, but then we damage ourselves with our "story" about it that
is part of our over-riding program of self-pity and judgment.

silent, pain stops -- even the world stops!
Only the Moment remains, full of potential energy and even Power. Each
of these triggers, without the attached story-program, can take us to the world
beyond, to the promised land, to Shangri-La. Or to the undreamt-of Mystery.

LFST RB3000: It is curious to me that our
"rational, scientific" culture thinks that there is one common
reality and one normal state of consciousness.
It allows that people can be put into trance or drugged, or that they
can go mad, but anything that they experience in these states is regarded as
hallucination.

LFST RB3000: What we do not realize is
that in our "normal, standard consciousness," we are constantly going
from one trance to another, from the moment we wake up in the morning. Our dreams at night may in fact be more
conscious than our "waking life."

LFST RB3000: Every advertisement triggers
us, everything that somebody says, everything reminds us of something that we
then dwell upon, and forget where we are.

LFST RB3000: Amazingly, we have learned to
get by, even brilliantly, by adopting a mask which filters all our inputs and
returns "responses" from our stock of proper categories. In fact, if something
does not happen to fit in one of those categories, it does not exist for our
"conscious" mind!

LFST RB3000: In shamanic traditions, by
contrast, (and in these I include the origins of all the major religions), a
practitioner puts him or herself into various specific trances, even to the
point of what we would normally call insane, and then conduct healings, receive
visions, and bring back teachings and prophecies which are regarded as highly
valuable to their people.

LFST RB3000: Further, in lineages of
genuine Ancient Knowledge (which does not merely mean "old"), it is
possible to attain much higher states of consciousness by assembling
"higher bodies" and by switching on the "higher minds."

mental and causal bodies, as they are referred to in some traditions, which are
the vessels of the higher emotional, higher mental and the cosmic minds.
